Who We Are
- We Are a Covenant People
We understand ourselves to be a community, the People of God, the Body of Christ. We are not a gathering of individuals searching to meet our own needs, but a congregation committed to each other and the call to carry on the ministry of Jesus. We are married together--for better or worse. - We Believe in the Goodness of Humans
We recognize evil in the world, but we don't wallow in human sin. We affirm that we are created in the image of God, filled with gifts for ministry and the obligation to live responsibly in the world. - We Are Unapologetically Christian But Recognize the Truth of Other Religions
We have been nurtured in the Christian Church and know God most clearly through the person of Jesus revealed in the testimony of the Bible. But we do not arrogantly claim that we own all truth. God speaks in many ways to the people of our earth. - We Are an Inclusive Church
We don't live our lives by declaring who is in and who is out. We are not a club of the saved. We believe that Jesus reached out to all people with God's love, and we seek to do the same. We welcome people of all ages, races, economic classes, and sexual orientation as sisters and brothers in Christ. We strive to live out the UCC slogan, "Whoever you are, wherever you are on life's journey, you are welcome here!" - We Are a Progressive Church
There are many ways to define "Progressive Christianity," Fred Plumer, a UCC minister and president of The Center for Progressive Christianity offers this short list of components:- To see oneself as a "follower of Jesus" or Jesus' teachings rather than a believer in a creed;
- To recognize that Christianity is not the only way;
- To search the great mysteries of life with an open theology and an intellectual integrity;
- To recognize that ecology and social justice are interlinked and part of your faith;
- To understand that gays, lesbians, transgenders and bi-sexuals are full participants in our world as a natural part of God's creation.
- We Are a Congregational Church
We are not a dogmatic church, demanding theological uniformity. We believe in freedom of conscience and cherish discussion and intellectual integrity. We don't let our minister make our decisions for us. We believe that this is God's church, and we each have a part is listening to determine what God wants us to do--together!
Our Mission
We seek to make a positive difference in the way people live...
- By creating uplifting worship services with joyful contemporary and traditional music and Bible-based sermons which speak to everyday life.
- By honoring each person's beliefs. We invite questioning and searching for Christian truth.
- By offering an "extended family" where people are loved and accepted.
- By participating in programs of service to those whom Jesus served, the poor, the homeless, and the oppressed. We run an emergency food pantry and make our building available to many self-help and community groups.
- By living in harmony with all God's creation and restoring and honoring it for its own sake we pledge to become a greening congregation.
